Better Skin

Privacy Policy

Last updated 18 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Alexander Handley (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Better Skin mobile app and the website at betterskinapp.com (together, the “Service”).

Better Skin is a daily skin-health journaling companion. You write a short check-in about how your skin, diet, sleep, and stress are going, and over time the app helps you notice patterns. It is a wellness companion, not a medical or healthcare service — see “Wellness, not medical advice” below.

The short version. We collect the account details and journal entries you give us so the app can work, and a small amount of technical data to keep it running and improve it. Your journal text is sent to our AI provider so the app can reply to you and surface patterns — under our agreement with that provider it is not used to train AI models, and we never sell your data. You can edit or delete your data at any time.

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address and a password. Authentication is handled by our infrastructure provider (Supabase); your password is stored by them in hashed form and is not visible to us.

Profile and journal information

During onboarding and ongoing use you may share information about yourself and your routine, including things like your skin goals, the concerns you want to track, and notes about your diet, sleep, lifestyle, and how you’re feeling. Your daily check-ins are free-text entries that you choose what to put in. We also store the coach style you select and the content the app generates for you — opening prompts, daily summaries, and the periodic “Readings” that reflect patterns back to you.

Some of this information relates to your wellbeing and may be considered sensitive. You decide what to share, and you can change or delete it.

Subscription information

If you purchase a subscription, the payment is processed by Apple through the App Store, not by us. We do not receive or store your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage and verify your subscription status across your devices, and we receive that status (for example, whether your subscription is active) so we can unlock paid features.

Device and usage information

We automatically collect a limited amount of technical data:

How we use your information

How your information is processed by AI

To generate the app’s responses, daily summaries, and Readings, your profile and journal text are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) for processing. This processing happens to produce a reply or observation for you. Under our agreement with this provider, your content is not used to train AI models, and it is not used to diagnose, treat, or assess any health condition.

AI-generated content can be wrong or incomplete. It is offered as general wellness reflection and is not a substitute for professional advice.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it with the service providers that help us run the Service, and only as needed for them to perform their function. These currently include:

Any measurement data we share with Apple to understand how our ads perform is limited and is not a sale of your personal information. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), in which case we will let you know.

International transfers

Our service providers may store and process your information on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we transfer information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with this policy and applicable privacy law.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active so the app can show you your history and patterns over time. If you delete your account, we delete your profile and journal data from our active systems. Some information may remain in backups or in aggregated, de-identified form, and we may retain limited records where required by law.

Your choices and rights

You can review and update your profile information in the app at any time. You can delete your account from within the app, which removes your associated data as described above.

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you and to ask us to correct it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights. To make a request, or if you have a privacy concern or complaint, email us at support@betterskinapp.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

If you are in the EEA or the UK

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases to process your information: performing our contract with you (to provide the Service you’ve requested); your consent (for example, for the health-related information you choose to share and for analytics); and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Service. You have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, email us at support@betterskinapp.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect your information, such as encrypted connections and access controls. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Wellness, not medical advice

Better Skin helps you track your routine and notice patterns. It does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice, and the information it surfaces is not a clinical assessment. If you have a health concern about your skin or anything else, please consult a qualified healthcare professional or dermatologist.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
